We are happy to organise a trip tailored to the needs and requirements of smaller or larger groups. Let us be your guide.
Travel guide: Königstein fortress und Bastei bridge
Our bus will take you to the foot of Koenigstein fortress, one of Europe’s biggest fortresses and important witness to Saxony’s history (guided walk through the fortress for about 2.5 hours). Afterwards, we will give you some time to discover the vast plateau on which the fortress sits and time, too, perhaps to try some cake from the fortress’ own bakery. After descending from the fortress, you will sail on an historic steam paddler along the River Elbe into the western part of the National Park with its main town. Rathen (boat tour around 30 minutes). Here, you will leave the steam boat and walk up to the famous Bastei bridge, the favourite viewing point of the whole of Saxon Switzerland (1.5 hours walk). Afterwards, a bus will take you back to your hotel.
Let us furnish you with interesting facts about the region, its culture and people. We have staged the walks to make them doable for people of all abilities and fitness levels. On some walks you will have to climb up metal ladders that don’t require you to have any climbing experience.
Nor do you need any alpine skills for our one-day walks. They are structured in such a way that you can enjoy the National Park and the beauty and peace of the region without being exhausted. The main goal in our walks is to introduce you to the regional nature and landscape, relax and spend time together. Our tours are suitable for the young and the young-at-heart. The average height range (ascending/descending) on a walk is about 70 metres, except the tour to the Schrammstein viewing platform. The average time for our walks ranges from 4.5 to 7.5 hours.
We look forward to showing you the beauty of Saxon Switzerland and to sharing some wonderful days with you.
Walk to Schrammstein rocks and canoeing on the River Elbe (example)
First we take a short walk through Bad Schandau before we take the historic elevator at Ostrau. That takes us directly into the National Park, passing the rock called “Schrammtorwächter” and continuing to the “Schrammstein” viewing platform at a height of 417 metres. Enjoy the magnificent views all around you.
After having walked mostly through rocky terrain, we will continue to the village of Schmilka, which also affords fantastic views.
We will cross the river from Schmilka to Krippen in a traditional shallop and will have a walkers lunch at the “Ziegelscheune” B&B. Later in the afternoon, we will take another boat (possibly a catamaran) back to to our starting point in Bad Schandau.
