Saxon Switzerland also has its attractions during winter time. The following walking tour affords a different perspective and leads the winter walker along a romantic trail.
Length and duration of the tour:
10 km, about 3.5 hours
This semi-demanding tour to an outcrop called “Hohe Liebe” starts and finishes at Bad Schandau market square. After a few minutes walk, you will take the historic elevator to the village of Ostrau, which lies high above the River Elbe. Beyond the lynx enclosure, follow the trail marked with a red line until you arrive at “Hohe Liebe”. Glimpse through the tops of the trees and you can see the majestic “Falkenstein” (Falcon Rock). Keep following the trail down into the Kirnitzsch valley. Now follow the red dot along the way. Along the river where the raftsmen once shipped the wood you will head back into Bad Schandau.
Arrival & departure:
Car: Follow the A 17 motorway from Dresden and exit at Pirna, to follow the main road B 172 until you arrive at Bad Schandau. Parking is available at the river side car park (sign posted).
Train: The local train S 1 (direction of Bad Schandau or Schmilka) runs directly from Dresden. There are national and international train connections from Bad Schandau station.
